The Grumpy Bakers

The Grumpy Bakers is a story that begins and ends around the kitchen table.  Cathal and Sharon set out with a dream of creating a community style bakery brimming with sourdough bread and pastries, freshly baked on site every morning, for locals to snap up as the sun rises. A lifetime of baking and a passion to share real bread with people led the couple to take the plunge and pursue their dream sourdough bakery. Like many, Sharon spent the lock down of 2020 in her kitchen baking and trialling recipes with success and failure but a relentless passion to get them just right. Cathal and Sharon put in early mornings and late nights and giving up her teaching job Sharon was ready to open the doors of The Grumpy Bakers. A dream became reality and on August 12th The Grumpy Bakers was born out of love and hard work.

Our Team

The Grumpy Bakers rise before 1am to ensure Midleton is flooded with freshly baked sourdough and laminated pastries in time for breakfast every day. We have an early rise to bake real bread with no shortcuts but they say grumpy bakers bake the best bread! Our not so grumpy bakers take joy and pride in every loaf of bread and pastry that leave our kitchen. As our loaves crackle, hitting the cool morning air and we admire the layers in each and every croissant all of the hard work pays off. Driven and innovative individuals create the passionate team that makes The Grumpy Bakers a special place to visit.

Our Suppliers

We know good food and we only want to offer our customers the very best that we can. That is why we source ingredients for our baking from local and organic food producers as much as we can. Surrounded by amazing food producers Irish grain and Irish dairy make our bread and butter. Seasonal ingredients guide our menu changes to give you the very best pastry and cake options to chose from.
